The first four “Music City Mardi Gras” events were resounding successes having raised over $75,000 for the Foundation’s efforts to support families touched by cancer and assisting animal welfare organizations. Just a few of the things that the money raised went towards were buying 27 refrigerators for each of the rooms of the Leukemia Lymphoma Wing (11 North) at Vanderbilt Hospital and starting a scholarship for a graduating senior whose family has been touched by cancer. Also, more supplies for the “hospital survival kits” were bought for the patients and their families. Financial grants were also made to several patients to assist with medication and household bills and donations were also made to many animal welfare organizations in the area.
The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2004 by her sister Janet Ross, and operated by Janet and a small group of committed citizens, dedicated to the memory and charitable legacy of Lisa Ross Parker, whose life was taken at age 33 by leukemia. Terri Clark has dedicated her support to the Lisa Ross Parker Foundation. Terri wrote an emotional entry on her artist website www.TerriClark.com before the holidays a couple years ago telling of how her life was touched by the Ross family and how her song “The One You Love” came to be. Terri, a good friend of Lisa’s sister Janet, first met Lisa after she was in the hospital battling her fight with leukemia. She saw the fearless fight in Lisa. Only three days after that visit Lisa lost her battle. Terri says, “I saw the devastation it caused within a very close family, and how hard it was for them to keep the bedside vigil going, being from out of town, and not having many of the means to make staying with Lisa throughout her ordeal very easy.” After Lisa passed away, Terri was inspired to write the poignant “The One You Love.” This song is on her PAIN TO KILL album and can be heard at the Foundation’s website www.lrpfoundation.org. Terri’s fans have since answered her requests to donate to the Foundation in lieu of sending her gifts. In response, the Lisa Ross Parker Foundation has received donations from as far away as Australia and New Zealand.
