The Healing Touch
Once a month the foundation provides chair massages for the patients, patients families, and any staff member working on 11 North. For 3 hours on Saturday April 9th all 3 chairs were occupied. One patient commented on how nice it was,

"you don't realize how important touch is, of all the meds, this felt the best!"

First LRP Grant Check Presented to Tommy Meek
Tommy Ross, Lisa’s father, presented the first grant check from the foundation to Mr. Tommy Meek, for his daughter Melissa Ernest, on behalf of the Lisa Ross Parker Foundation. Melissa, a 16-year-old, had been undergoing treatment for leukemia at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. Our mission and purpose is to provide support to families having to deal with a cancer diagnosis and with the help of our very generous donors, we are able to provide assistance to families that are battling this disease.

Into the Future
We are currently working to ease the burden of families of cancer patients who require an extended stay at the hospital for treatment. A hospital stay is stressful enough for families without expenses incurred outside of treatment; whether it's paying for gas to commute between home and the hospital, eating out, or finding affordable lodging. Your contribution will help us provide leukemia and other blood-related cancer patients with a "Hospital Survival Pack" stocked with pre-paid phone cards, pre-paid gas cards, vouchers for local restaurants, coupons for discounted lodging, books, magazines, and other items to help families in their time of need.

We plan to continue developing projects that assist blood-related cancer patients and their loved ones for as long as blood-related cancer continues to affect people's lives. If you have suggestions for additional projects to assist these people in need, please let us know by emailing us at suggestions@lrpfoundation.org.

Hospital Survival Packs
NASHVILLE, TN - April 7, 2005 - The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation [the Foundation], carried out one of it's first big initiatives last Tuesday, March 29.
Members of the Foundation and Terri Clark, country star and personal Ross family friend, spent the afternoon at the Vanderbilt Hospital's Leukemia & Lymphoma wing delivering "Hospital Survival Packs" to the patients and their families. Earlier in the day the Foundation provided a hot lunch for the entire wing (patients, families, nurses, doctors).

"Thank you for the survival pack! It is well thought out."
-Vanderbilt patient

Included in the hospital survival packs were maps of and Nashville, coupon books for food and lodging, books, games, pens, snacks, etc. A few items to ease just a few of the burdens of the family members caring for the hospital bound patients - some of whom live outside of the Nashville area and don't have immediate access to every day conveniences.
